ABOUT

About Me

I currently work in private practice with individual adults, children, young people and families.

Alongside my private practice I am an independent psychotherapist in primary and secondary schools in North London and Hertfordshire providing one to one therapy, ad hoc assessments and consultancy for teachers and parents. I run therapeutic parenting groups for parents who are struggling to cope with their child's mental health issues and their own.

I am an Associate Therapist at Beacon House Therapeutic Services & Trauma Team in Sussex, and for the Wilderness Foundation in Essex.

I teach trainee child therapists and counsellors as part of their training at Terapia / Middlesex University and previously as a seminar  leader on the Play Therapy MA at Roehampton University.

I am an experienced  Clinical Supervisor at Terapia and in private practice.

Prior to working privately, I worked as part of a multi-disciplinary team in a  tier 2 Child and Adolescent Mental Health Service (CAMHS) in Berkshire and managed a therapy service in a primary school in North West London for the charity Place2Be. I have worked directly with Social Care on short-term state of mind and placement assessments and worked with foster carers to support placements. I have previously provided court reports and been an expert witness in a family court. I worked at a residential Children's Home in Surrey providing one to one therapy and training for staff.

Before training as a therapist I worked in the arts for ten years as a senior manager heading up and leading press and marketing teams for theatres and arts venues across London.

Qualifications: MA in Integrative Child and Adolescent Psychotherapy and Counselling, Terapia / Middlesex University

Diploma in Child, Adolescent and Adult Clinical Supervision, Terapia / Middlesex University.

Accredited by UKCP (UK Council for Psychotherapy).

PSYCHOTHERAPY

Psychotherapy

There are many reasons why people seek the support of a therapist. Maybe you are experiencing problems in your life at work, home or in relationships, and you do not fully understand why. Perhaps you have been through early trauma or traumatic experiences that you are having difficulty coming to terms with.

Sharing experiences, difficulties and feelings with someone who is not connected to your life and is non-judgemental can help you make sense of what has happened or is happening.

I am an integrative therapist which means I tailor therapy sessions for the individual client as each person will need something different. I believe in accepting the person as they are and that everyone has the capacity within themselves to heal their own life. At the heart of my work is the importance of the therapeutic relationship and that through this the client will have different experiences of relating with others which leads to positive shifts, over time, in their lives.

I bring warmth, empathy, creativity and challenge to the  therapeutic relationship. My aim is to explore all areas of your life on an intellectual, emotional, spiritual and embodied level.

I am passionate about the potential for working therapeutically in outdoor, natural environments and I am happy to offer ecotherapy or walking psychotherapy sessions. Please contact me for more information on this way of working if you are interested.

I am experienced in working with parents who require both long-term support or short-term consultation around their child's mental health difficulties or connected to parenting difficulties.

Sessions usually last for 50 minutes at the same time each week.

Location: I am based at Finchley Central (The Bothy, N3 3QE).

Fees: £95 - £120 (sliding scale of fees)

Child & Adolescent  Psychotherapy

Sometimes, a child or young person may have had a particularly challenging start in life or are currently going through difficult circumstances at school or at home. It may be hard for the child or young person to express they are having difficulties or that they are feeling unhappy. If this is the case, they may show how they feel through their behaviour, perhaps by acting aggressively, self-harming, hurting others or seeming withdrawn or anxious. Others may indicate distress by physically hurting themselves, or even soiling or wetting the bed. Some children have a diagnosis, for example Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) or Autistic Spectrum Disorder (ASD).  As a parent or carer, although you are doing your best, you may feel like you're struggling with your child's behaviour and need some external support and guidance.

Seeing a therapist does not mean there is 'something wrong' with your child. It just means that at the moment you and your child may benefit from having a space to think about and reflect on current difficulties.

There is no such thing as a standard or normal therapy session. Children and young people sometimes find it hard to know or express how they feel.  I use different methods that enable them to show what may be going on for them, in ways that feel safe and non-threatening. I am trained to work with a broad range of tools including talking and play / arts therapy. I offer a  variety of media, which could include sand, painting, drawing, clay, music, puppetry, movement, drama, storytelling and writing.

I work closely with parents and families. After an initial assessment period, it may be necessary to see both parent and child together and/or see the parents alongside individual child sessions. I work in partnership with you.

Location: I am based at Finchley Central (The Bothy, N3 3QE), and offering ecopsychotherapy sessions  outdoors.

Fees: £95 - £120 per 50 minute session (sliding scale of fee)

Supervision

Adult & Child Psychotherapists and Counsellors

I offer Supervision to qualified adult and child counsellors and psychotherapists as well as trainees and student therapists.

I believe that creative methods and techniques can  help us to reflect on and understand all the different dynamics in the supervisory triad. I have undertaken further training in Nature Based Psychotherapy and offer supervision outdoors in natural environments for those who are interested in this way of working and expanding their practice working therapeutically outdoors.

I am able to offer ad hoc case consultations to adult therapists and counsellors who are working with children and  young people, either in person or by phone.

Supervision in Schools

I have extensive experience of working in schools and can offer senior leadership teams, teachers and teaching staff either individual or group reflective discussion space to think about children or young people they are concerned about as well as supervision for their own professional and personal development.

I am also happy to offer consultancy support to school counsellors and therapists who work in schools.
